"One of the most important Ukraine lessons for Europe and the entire NATO is that European security and future are not achievable without a secure and prosperous Europe, therefore security and defence cooperation between NATO and Ukraine must be deepened," Olekas said in the opening event.

The minister pointed out the necessity for Ukraine to reform its security and defence sector as it aims at developing efficient armed forces as an important lesson to learn.

According to the minister, the NATO alliance as a whole and its individual member states are prepared to support Ukraine on its way of reforms like never before. Minister Olekas also underscored that Lithuania had always been a supporter of deeper and more extensive defence cooperation with Ukraine. At the same time the Minister pointed out Lithuania's readiness to increase its support for the reform in Ukraine.

NATO Week in Ukraine is arranged and coordinated by the NATO Defence College and NATO Public Democracy Divisions in Ukraine in cooperation with the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine (the current NATO Contact Point Embassy in Ukraine) and Ukrainian authorities.

On April 20-21, Minister of National Defence Olekas and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Jonas Vytautas Žukas are conducting an official visit in Ukraine.
