Lithuanian Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis says that it is possible that Russia's arbitration court will not hear a lawsuit filed by Vladimir Antonov, Snoras' former majority shareholder, against Lithuania and that the government has yet to decide whether to participate in the process.

"As to the arbitration court, the government has not yet made its decision on whether or not Lithuania will participate. We are to prepare our position next week and I will be able to comment then," Bernatonis told reporters on Wednesday.

"According to agreements and international law, it would seem that (the Moscow arbitration court) should not hear that case. According to our agreement with Russia, (a claim for) damage is to be heard in the country where the damage occurred," he said.

The government decided on Monday that the Ministry of Justice would prepare a position on Lithuania's participation in the process and if it were decided that it would participate, the ministry would then have to make arrangements as to the representation of the state in court or represent it itself.

Antonov last month filed a lawsuit worth 40.1 billion rubles (EUR 558 mln) against Lithuania with a Moscow arbitration court. The former banker is seeking 20.2 billion rubles (EUR 281 mln) million euros in material damages and another 19.9 billion rubles (EUR 277 mln) euros in damages to his business reputation.

The first hearing scheduled for September 22.
