Lithuanian Airports is to invest €5 million in expanding the passenger terminal at Vilnius Airport to increase its capacity to five million passengers from the current four million capacity.

“The number of boarding gates will be increased. We now have ten gates and plan to increase their number to 14. Also, we’ll build an additional escalator to reach the border checkpoint when passengers are arriving. It’ll be more convenient for them as they’ll no longer need to walk along corridors,” Vilnius Airport CEO Artūras Stankevičius told BNS.

“We’ll also enhance aviation security capacity. These works will not affect the functioning of the terminal in any way,” he said.

The work should be completed in late 2017 or early in 2018. Passenger traffic at Vilnius Airport has been increasing steadily, with the number of passengers flying out of Lithuania’s airports up by nearly 17% in January.
