A modern training center for officers of the penal system will be built instead, Rita Grumadaite, spokeswoman for the justice minister, told BNS Lithuania on Tuesday.

The area of more than 2 hectares is situated in the Rasos area of Vilnius, where the complex of 39 building has been standing unused since 2006.

The Vilnius Correction House plans to use EU funds to clear this derelict area, according to a statement. The plans will be today presented by Justice Minister Elvinsa Jankevicius and Virginijus Kulikauskas, head of the Prison Department.
