According to a presidential advisor, Nauseda's office tabled the proposal to the government last week. The Cabinet is scheduled to discuss additional business support measures later on Wednesday.

Under the proposal, the size of the direct payment to a company would be tied to the amount of taxes it paid.

"We propose that the size of the payment should be proportionate to the total amount of personal income taxes, and social and compulsory health insurance contributions paid by the company during 2019," Vaida Cesnuleviciute told BNS on Wednesday.

"Each company would receive 25 percent of the taxes it paid last year, regardless of the number of employees," the presidential advisor said.

Companies with up to nine employees make up one-third of all businesses operating in Lithuania and employ about one-tenth of all private sector workers, according to the president's office.
