Just under 300,000 passengers passed through the country's airports, 16.6% more than in the same period last year but Lithuanian airlines carried only 23,700 of that total, a drop of 5.4% on last year.

Cargo or freight volumes through the country’s airports fell by 7.3% on January last year which was mirrored in the rail sector, with freight volumes falling 5.1% year on year driven by a fall in international freight traffic.

However, Klaipėda bucked this trend, with freight and cargo transitting Klaipėda port rising by 7.3% on 2015.
