According to Ferratum Group's international Christmas barometer for 2015, this year a Lithuanian family will spend 26 percent of its total household income on Christmas shopping, which accounts for EUR 502. The biggest share of this money will go to buying toys (21 percent), sweets (16 percent), and cosmetics (15 percent).

Estonians this year are planning to allocate a fourth of their monthly income (EUR 501) for holiday shopping. Neighbouring Latvia will be celebrating Christmas more modestly, spending around a fifth of total family income (EUR 355).

The authors of the study conclude that the general financial situation in European countries remains stable as nearly 65 percent of all polled households are expecting to spend as much money for Christmas now as they did a year ago. In Europe, the Brits will spend the most on Christmas (39 percent of their income), while Croatia will have the most modest winter holidays (13 percent).

Lithuanians are ahead of their neighbours in terms of one more indicator - they are more likely to shop for gifts online. More than a fifth of Lithuanian respondents are planning to find Christmas gifts at online shops.

Ferratum's barometer was conducted in 21 countries where 14,205 households were polled.
