"Now we return with a clear target to maintain our position in Lithuania and the Baltics. By focusing on the Airbus A220-300 fleet, we are well positioned for a restart in Vilnius," Air Baltic CEO Martin Gauss said in a press release on Thursday.

The Lithuanian government on Wednesday allowed Air Baltic to relaunch flights from Vilnius to Riga next Monday, and to Tallinn a week later, but the airline told BNS earlier in the day that it did not yet have permission from the Latvian government to resume operations from Riga Airport.

The airline grounded all flights from the Baltic countries on March 17 due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

It planned to operate its first flight from Vilnius to Riga on Wednesday, but cancelled it.
