According to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, the government is increasing salaries for teachers as much as it can afford it. The president claims that it is impossible to do everything at once just in one year's time.
The teachers' strike planned in Lithuania this week will include at least 107 educational institutions, with teachers refusing to teach students for the first two periods in schools, pre-school teachers refusing to accept children for two hours and teachers of non-formal institutions refusing to work for the first two hours of work.
After a dispute between the joint representation of Lithuania's education trade unions and the Ministry of Education and Science turned to a deadlock, there is still another chance to find a peaceful solution. Minister of Education Dainius Pavalkis agreed to settle the disagreement through a conciliator.
