Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė says that the country agrees with Brussels' recommendation on distribution of refugees, saying that future solidarity in sharing burdens should not be based on "coercive mechanisms".
The current rush of refugees is arguably the greatest challenge for the European Union throughout its history. One should hope that the crisis can be solved without endangering the overall European project.
The European Commission (EC) has proposed that Lithuania should accept 780 refugees, in addition to the number agreed upon previously, who are currently in Hungary, Greece and Italy, diplomatic sources told BNS on Wednesday.
