Renowned chef Deivydas Praspaliauskas has opened new restaurant in the old town of Vilnius. The restaurant has small, cozy vinery type ground floor with solid wine list and a la carte menu. Moreover, in the evenings beautiful and wide basement part opens. A degustation menu, crafted by the restaurant chef is served in the basement part of the restaurant.

Vilnius' Gediminas Hill, which was closed for visitors last week due to heavy rain forecasts, is being reopened on Tuesday, but visitors will only be allowed into the Castle Tower and a part of the observation area on the top of the historic mound.

World of Dance is an international dance competition, which is the biggest event in urban dance world today. While Lithuania is often criticised for homophobic laws and attitudes, her big cities are taking their own initiative to change the country’s course for a more progressive and inclusive society. Wednesday, June 21, a Friendly Vilnius map was issued and 20.000 free copies distributed across the city. This is the 5th edition of the map, a project which has been highlighting LGBT friendly establishments since 2012.

On Friday night (June 16) Culture Night, one of the cultural highlights on the Vilnius public calendar saw thousands flocking to a smorgasbord of culture events. It is also called the night full of light, and this year there was a wide selection of events and visits on offer. All events were free, although some of the more popular concerts and visits required showing up early or registering.

On Thursday the 8th edition of Art Vilnius opened its doors in Vilnius' Litexpo. The four-day exhibition runs until Sunday, 11 June. It is an annual event that brings together some 55 galleries, representing 200 artists from 20 countries. The exhibition includes renowned Lithuanian contemporary artists and galleries.

The summer is going to be hot for Mėnuo Juodaragis, the festival of alternative music and modern Baltic culture. On the last weekend of August, the anniversary 20th edition of the festival will take place. The theme of the event will be illuminated with whips of lightning wielded by Perkūnas, the Baltic god of thunder, while the music programme will be headlined by Wardruna, the modern Norse tradition band from Norway. The organisers of the festival have also revealed guests from other countries.

On the 6th May on the Neris River the 11th century Viking ship will appear. The crew of the ship together with several groups of ancient Baltic tribes will invite all interests to go on a time journey and experience the story of the Europe’s last pagan tribes in the Viking times. The event “Day of Tribes” in this day from 14:00 – 20:00 will transfer the banks of the Neris River besides the White bridge of Vilnius into an ancient camp of warriors, craftsmen, salesmen and storytellers.

Now in its third year, the Labas! festival is the brainchild of Dalia Mikoliūnaitė from Teatriukas in Vilnius, Lithuania and Cliodhna Noonan from Acting Up! in Dublin, Ireland. The first edition (2015) was small and compact and enjoyed the support of the Irish Embassy, the Croatian and Lithuanian Ministries of Culture and the Austrian Culture Forum in Lithuania. It was a first step in the direction of international collaboration on the idea of presenting new performances to an audience under 6 years old and their carers. Performances were in cultural venues in the city and selected state facilities in the Kūdikių namai (Vilnius residence for infants with developmental delays) and minority communities in Vilnius.
