Government approves easier hiring of foreign specialists

Lithuania's government on Wednesday gave a green light to hiring foreign specialists of certain fields, however, some opposition politicians warn that this could pave way for cheaper labor force that will stop the increase of wages for Lithuanians.
With data showing that emigration from Lithuania has increased even more this year, the cabinet has drafted a plan to reduce emigration and encourage repatriation. Economists, however, are sceptical that it will work.
Lithuanians are the least loyal staff among the Baltic, Scandinavian and Western European countries, according to a survey commissioned by construction equipment and modular space rental company, Cramo.
More professionals from Ukraine are expected to come to Lithuania after the government has made it easier for businesses to hire third-country nationals in certain occupations, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said on Thursday.
