US reassures Lithuania of congressional approval for $3.4 billion in European defence support

On his visit to the United States this week, Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas was assured by US politicians that Congress will approve the $3.4-billion-USD European Reassurance Initiative for 2017, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence said on Thursday.
It has been 12 years to the day since Lithuania joined NATO. Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas spoke today about how the Lithuanian government and the Alliance itself are coming to understand the threat that the Baltic states face.
