Lithuanian railways wins freight deal with Kazakh company

Kazakhstan will being transporting goods to Scandanavian and Western European markets using Lithuanian Railways trains after a new contract was signed between KTZ Express of Kazakhstan and Lithuanian railways.
Chinese representative are coming to Lithuania to inspect Rail Baltica, the European-gauge railway project that will connect the Baltic states and Western Europe with a view to bidding for contracts, LRT reports.
A segment of Rail Baltica between Kaunas and the Polish border is officially opening on Friday. The Lithuanian prime minister says it is now up to Poland to upgrade its network so that transportation of cargo and passengers on the railway can begin.
The Swedbank group is the highest-valued company in the Baltic states. The company's worth grew 22 percent over the last year to reach EUR 3.9bn. It tops the list of the ten highest-valued companies in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
A second line of Vilnius Railway Bypass has been constructed and will enable to divert freight trains from the city centre. Railway traffic will become safer as a result and hazardous material pollution risk will be reduced.
Lithuania's VPA Logistics, the operator of the shuttle container train service Saulė (Sun) between Europe and Asia, is trying to revive the stalling project, the business daily Verslo Žinios reported on Wednesday.
